A beautiful path leads along the Schwarzach through the gorge through which the small river winds. The path partly goes over wooden footbridges over the river and leads past beautiful and bizarre rock formations, as well as caves and a spring. A wonderful adventure playground for young and old.

In 1825, under King Ludwig I, concrete planning began for the Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal in order to create a navigable connection between the North Sea and the Black Sea. With a total length of 172 km, it connects the Danube near Kehlheim with the Regnitz in Bamberg.
Today the “Old Canal” functions as an attractive and natural recreational area. With its excellently developed paths, it offers a great opportunity to explore the region in a relaxed manner by bike.
The Altdorf market square is definitely worth a visit. The town center has remained almost unchanged for centuries. The Laurentius Church, old town houses, city gates and the former university building characterize the townscape. A nice place to eat an ice cream or drink a coffee. Every Saturday there is a farmers‘ market on the market square.

A large number of sights run through Nuremberg’s old town. These include the Kaiserburg – the city’s landmark, the main market – where the famous Nuremberg Christkindlmarkt takes place at Christmas time, the churches of St. Lorenz and St. Sebaldus, the Albrecht Dürer House, the Heilig-Geist-Spital and the Henkersteg. Between historic half-timbered and sandstone houses, the city also invites you to go on a lovely shopping tour along the road Breite Gasse.
There is a diverse network of beautiful circular hiking trails in and around Altdorf. Some of them can be started directly from the Pension zum Schrammel. Highlights include the lion’s den, the so-called devil’s cave and the picturesque village of Prackenfels.
The Nuremberg Zoo is one of the most beautiful landscape zoos in Europe on the outskirts of the city of Nuremberg on approximately 67 hectares. The zoo is designed as an extensive forest park with old trees as well as idyllic meadow and pond landscapes and impressive rock formations that serve as a habitat for ibexes, lions, tigers and polar bears.
